The arrow reminds me of the way we Midwesterners tell jokes. We seem to have a genetic flaw that renders us incapable of just STOPPING after the punchline. Invariably we feel compelled to go one and sometimes two steps further, explaining what was already obvious. The arrow is like that. “See? The spot is right here…. with the X on it. The X is right on it. Marking it, if you will. Riiiiiiiight here.”
